“We remind you once again that non-compliance with mandatory Security Council resolutions must lead to sanctions against violators. We believe that the Council should consider this issue without delay,” Nebenzia told during a session of the 15-member UN body on Wednesday as IRNA cited a Russian news agency.
He noted that Security Council Resolution 2728, which demanded a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during Ramadan, had not been implemented, adding that the council needs to investigate the issue of sanctioning the Zionist regime.
The Russian diplomat, during the meeting on the developments in West Asia and Palestine, said that Gaza is witnessing an unprecedented disaster, but despite this, Israel is preventing humanitarian aid convoys from reaching this area.
Nebenzia stressed that the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) must be fully restored so that the situation in Gaza does not become more critical, warning that the entire region will suffer from the consequences and negative effects of weakening UNRWA's role.
